Linear Footage = (Roll weight x Area of paper x 500) / (Basis weight x Roll width x 12)
Linear Yardage = Linear Footage / 3
The below examples are linear footage and yardage calculations for a roll of 50# offset paper (25” x 38”) that is 26" wide and weighs 100 lbs.
Linear Footage: (100 lbs. x (25" x 38") x 500) / (50 lbs. x 26" x 12) = 3,045 linear feet
Linear Yardage: 3,045 / 3 = 1,015 linear yards

Estimate the thousands of square inches (MSI) and square feet (MSF) in a roll of paper of a given grade and basis weight.
MSI = Roll weight / ((Basis weight / Area of paper) x 2)
MSF = MSI / 144
The below examples are MSI and MSF calculations for a roll of 80# book paper (25” x 38”) that weighs 900 lbs.
MSI: 900 lbs. / ((80 lbs. / (25” x 38”)) x 2) = 5,344 MSI
MSF: 5,344 / 144 = 37.11 MSF
